Introducing Caregiver of the Month February 2012, Christopher Baiza

In an effort to let our readers into the inner workings of A-1 Home Care, we'd love to reach out and introduce you to the most treasured members of our staff. Today we'll be introducing Christopher Baiza, who was our caregiver of the month on February 2012.

In his past, Christopher underwent training as a nurse, which prepared him for the work that he does with us at A-1 Home Care/ A-1 Domestic. His clients always speak very highly of him, citing his willingness to go above and beyond for the good of the patient. We enjoyed working with Christopher- he is always kind and well mannered. He's a joy to be around. Please watch the video below to get a taste of his good energy and positive attitude!

Happy Thanksgiving!

This year's holiday season is fast approaching, starting with Thanksgiving. Time to break out grandma's recipes for turkey and stuffing! Planning an elaborate meal can be a hassle, or just plain stressful. Lucky for you, we've got a recipe suggestion that might lighten the load just a bit. We present:

Zucchini Parmesan Crisps, by Ellie Krieger

Ingredients

Cooking spray
2 medium zucchini (about 1 pound total)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan (3/4-ounce)
1/4 cup plain dry bread crumbs
1/8 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.

Slice the zucchini into 1/4-inch thick rounds. In a medium bowl, toss the zucchini with the oil. In a small bowl, combine the Parmesan, bread crumbs, salt, and a few turns of pepper. Dip each round into the Parmesan mixture, coating it evenly on both sides, pressing the coating on to stick, and place in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the zucchini rounds until browned and crisp, 25 to 30 minutes. Remove with spatula. Serve immediately.

Hospice Care for Seniors in Pico Rivera

Unlike the views held in western society, Tibetan death is not an event to be feared. Rather, it is part of an ongoing cycle of life. According to traditional belief about the end of life, the human mind is the one thing that survives during reincarnation. Seniors and adults are unable to take things like wealth, status and possessions with us to the next life.

A-1 Home Care is a nonmedical homecare agency that provides Pico Rivera Hospice Caregivers for families and elders in the Orange County/ Los Angeles area. We are respectful of family or religious traditions and rituals surrounding the end of life.

Live In Care in Pico Rivera

Elders with Alzheimers have certainly been counseled to seek exercise to support brain function. It's been well known in the health community that aerobic and strength training exercises improve structure and memory in the brain. Plenty of studies have shown that just a few months of exercise can create new neurons, lift mood and improve thinking. But how long does this last? The New York Times investigates with the following, "Do the Brain Benefits of Exercise Last?"

Two studies took a look at what happens when exercise is stopped. While exercise is certainly helpful for seniors with Alzheimers and Dementia, it must be done continuously to reap benefits. After just a few weeks of inactivity, new neurons and pathways created in the brain fade away.

A-1 Home Care arranges talented Live In Caregiving for elders with Alzheimer. Our Aides provide varied and delicious meals and speak gently with orienting language.
